Transportation Policy Analyst--Duke University

The Climate Change Policy Partnership (CCPP) at Duke University is seeking analysts in transportation policy with specific expertise in vehicle technologies, alternative fuels or smart growth/land use. Analysts will research and analyze transportation and land-use greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation options and develop related policy proposals.

The positions are located on the Duke University campus in Durham, NC and are open to both postdoctoral and full time permanent hire candidates. More information on the CCPP can be found at http://www.nicholas.duke.edu/institute/ccpp/.

Postdoctoral candidates:

The position is a one year appointment with potential for extension based on mutual interest. Applicants must have completed a PhD related to transportation policy and/or technology applicable to climate change legislation.

Permanent hire candidates:

Applicants for the permanent staff position must have an MA/MS with five years relevant experience (an MA related to policy is highly desirable), or a PhD with the completion of postdoctoral research.

We are looking for candidates with:

· Experience analyzing and designing federal and state transportation and land-use policies, including vehicle technology, biofuels, transit, commuter options, and freight.

· Familiarity with transportation and energy data sets, models and technical tools.

· A combination of academic training and work or research experience in planning, public policy, engineering and/or economics.

· The ability to articulate clearly the benefits (and transactions costs) of using market dynamics to reduce transportation GHG emissions, including baselines/additionality, sector targets, offsets etc.

· The ability to translate analysis into practical policy proposals that can integrate with federal climate policy such as a cap and trade program.
