Zoning Enforcement Officer (temporary part-time)
The Department of Planning & Zoning seeks an independent self-starter that possesses strong written/oral communication skills, self-confidence, and the ability to interpret and firmly enforce relevant ordinances with tact and courtesy. The Zoning Enforcement Officer (ZEO) will complete a variety of site work including front line zoning enforcement tasks enforcing the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) and other land development requirements to investigate violation complaints, collect evidence, and issue Notices of Violation and civil penalties; complete property posting and documenting of public hearing signs; and complete inspections to verify compliance with issued UDO Permits. The ZEO may also assist with the processing of applications for UDO Permits and other duties as assigned. Some public speaking required. Technical judgment is required to interpret provisions of the codes and ordinances and property research. Tact, courtesy, and firmness must be exercised in dealing with the general public.
Graduation from high school and three years of experience in zoning investigations, zoning enforcement, building permits, urban planning, or related work; OR, Associate degree in related field; OR, equivalent education and/or experience. Prefer graduation from a four-year college with a degree in planning; public administration or criminal justice; and, a working knowledge of the principles and practices of land development and enforcement actions necessary to insure compliance with land development regulation.
The hiring salary is $10/hr depending upon qualifications with an anticipated work schedule of 20 hours/week.
