The newly formed Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) in the District of Columbia is a product of the landmark Public Education Reform Amendment Act of 2007, which, in part, consolidated state-level education functions that were previously performed by the DC Public Schools, the Early Care and Education Administration within the Department of Human Services, the State Education Agency at the University of the District of Columbia, and the State Education Office into one agency.
