Chicago Dept. of Enviroment

The Chicago Department of Environment has two interesting job openings for experienced candidates. Both are with the Natural Resources and Water Quality Division. These positions might interest people working in green architecture, sustainable technology, open space, landscaping, job training and water issues.

Department of Environment-Natural Resource and Water Quality
The Assistant Commissioner of the Natural Resources and Water Quality Division works with one of the five units that comprise the Department of Environment. This division contributes to the Department's mission by creating and expanding healthy green spaces, promoting protection and conservation of the region's waterways, demonstrating green building practices, providing job training opportunities for residents and other programs related to natural resources. The Assistant Commissioner works on all functions of the unit, from project planning and implementation to budget and staff management. The Assistant Commissioner must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be very organized and able to manage time and projects efficiently, and have proven experience managing a team of individuals representing a diverse array of experiences and backgrounds. This position should have significant experience in natural resources management, natural resources policy, or a similar environmental field. The Assistant Commissioner must be willing to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree or above in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Civil or Environmental Engineering, Business Administration, or Public Administration supplemented by five years of progressively responsible managerial experience in the planning and implementation of administrative and/ or operational programs
