Orange County Environment and Resource Conservation

ORANGE COUNTY ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCE CONSERVATION
RESEARCH ASSOCIATE POSITION
STARTS DECEMBER 10, 2007

This is a temporary part-time position, working 10-15 hours per week. The position is available December 10, 2007 and is funded through June 30, 2008 (and may be funded beyond that date, subject to future budget approvals). Rate of pay is $13.00/hour.
EXPECTED PRIORITY PROJECTS include:
• Lands Legacy Program (assist staff with stewardship and research for the County's award-winning land conservation program to acquire and protect natural and cultural resource lands)
• Natural and Cultural Systems Element, Orange County Comprehensive Plan (creation of a new policy guide for natural and cultural resources for Orange County)
• Orange County Environmental Stewardship Action Committee (help staff a network of County department representatives to evaluate and measure progress on County's environmental responsibility goal)
• Air Quality (assist staff with the Joint Orange County-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction and Action Plan Project)
• Water Resources and Farmland Preservation projects (assistance as needed)
Work includes research, field work, preparation of reports and issue papers, and other duties as assigned. Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs important, familiarity with ARC-View GIS desirable. Knowledge of land stewardship issues a plus. May work up to 40 hours per week during summer and academic breaks. Flexible schedule.
