Portland Planners

*Planners in the City of Portland*
Portland has five non-supervisory planning classifications - Planning Assistant, Associate Planner, City Planner I, City Planner II, and Senior Planner.
City Planners I perform less specialized and less complex planning assignments than City Planners II and may have fewer years of professional planning experience. City Planners II perform more specialized and complex planning assignments requiring more advanced knowledge of planning principles and practices. City Planners II coordinate complex projects from inception to completion and perform their work more independently than City Planners I.

*Planners in the Bureau of Planning* work to develop plans, policies, and strategies to guide the City's future. Planners participate in the bureau's and City's efforts in many ways. Planners conduct research and policy analysis in several program areas. Planners engage the community in defining issues and opportunities and formulating plans and policies. They also may be involved in intergovernmental activities and in coordinating planning and development activities across bureaus. Several Planners work to advance certain City-wide initiatives including the Portland Plan.

*Planners in the Bureau of Development Services, Land Use Services Division* implement the Portland Zoning Code and provide information to the public about zoning and issues related to the use of land. They review development proposals and subdivision proposals to ensure compliance with the City's zoning regulations. They work with developers, lawyers, neighborhoods, and the City's service bureaus to mediate conflicts, problem-solve, and coordinate infrastructure improvements. They make land use decisions and make recommendations at public hearings. They write reports documenting whether and how specific proposals meet approval criteria.

CPI $4158-$4800 per month
CPII $4572-$5281 per month
