In addition, the Manager supports the development of new program initiatives, helps benchmark the County’s progress toward its economic development goals, and assists with external communications, including updating the EDC web site. The job is fast-paced and multi-faceted and requires strong research and communication skills. Bachelors required, Masters preferred.

Center for Competitive Economies

The Center for Competitive Economies (C3E) is seeking graduate research associates for the fall semester to assist is several economic development projects, including evaluation of state economic incentive programs and local economic development planning. The Center routinely employs graduate students on short and long term projects. The Center pays a competitive hourly rate and offers a flexible work schedule. First year and returning graduate students in planning, public administration, business, public policy, economics, and other relevant programs are encouraged to apply. NC IDA Executive Director

IDA and Asset Building Collaborative of North Carolina

The Individual Development Account (IDA) and Asset Building Collaborative of North Carolina seeks an Executive Director to advance its mission of promoting wealth creation among North Carolina’s low-wealth residents through supporting and building community programs, changing public policies, fostering coalitions, and advocating for other asset building strategies that promote economic self-sufficiency. Since January 1996, the IDA Collaborative has served as the central coordinating organization for asset development in North Carolina. Its efforts have helped establish North Carolina as one of the nation’s most innovative statewide IDA networks and a leader in the funding for and support of IDAs.

Currently the IDA Collaborative performs vital tasks that advocate and support the efforts of the local IDA site providers to include resource leveraging, policy development, public information and awareness, technical support, evaluation and accountability. In addition, the Collaborative serves as a convener and lead partners in several statewide asset and wealth creation initiatives including NCSaves, the Asset Building Policy Task Force, and the biennial Financial Education conference. The Collaborative also worked with state organizations, agencies and other community partners to foster financial education efforts for youth, support asset building opportunities for the developmental disabled, encourage the integration of EITC efforts with savings vehicles and advance state efforts to support entrepreneurship as an asset building strategy.

Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation Program Officer

The Z. Smith Reynolds Foundation is a private foundation with a mission to improve the quality of the lives of the people of North Carolina. The Foundation was established in 1936 as a memorial to Z. Smith Reynolds, the youngest son of R. J. Reynolds. Since that time it has been engaged in progressive grantmaking in North Carolina. The current focus areas of the Foundation’s grantmaking are Community Economic Development, Democracy and Civic Engagement, Environment, Pre-Collegiate Education, and Social Justice and Equity.

This Program Officer will work on a team with another Program Officer to provide services in the Foundation’s focus areas of Community Economic Development and Social Justice and Equity. The position includes analyzing grant applications, helping grantees build organizational capacity, developing effective strategies for the Foundation to facilitate positive change, and evaluating the effectiveness of the Foundation’s past grantmaking. All final grant decisions are made by the Trustees of the Foundation.

Requirements: Must have a Bachelors Degree or higher. Must have excellent analytic, critical and strategic thinking, organizational, writing and communications skills. Must be deeply committed to the values of the Foundation. Must be able to work well in a team, value diversity, work well with people of various cultural, ethnic, geographic and economic backgrounds, and be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines. Experience in economic development, commitment to or knowledge of the State of North Carolina, capacity to do research and data analysis, and a good working knowledge of current information technology are preferred. Humility, curiosity, self confidence and a sense of humor are desirable traits.

Virginia Tech Office of Economic Development Associate

The Economic Development Associate is an entry-level professional position in the Office of Economic Development. The Associate will assist in the research, design, and implementation of applied research and technical assistance projects to enhance economic development in regions and communities across the Commonwealth. This 12-month restricted administrative / professional faculty position with the rank of lecturer reports to the Director of the Office of Economic Development.

Required Qualifications:
-Master's degree in Applied Economics, Business Administration, Public Administration, Urban and Regional Planning, or a closely related field.

-Candidate should have working knowledge of at least two of the following areas: industrial development, community economic development, visioning/strategic planning, labor market analysis, workforce development, tourism, and technology transfer.

-Experience in collecting qualitative and quantitative data through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and secondary research, as well as analyzing data through various statistical and qualitative techniques. Facility with geographic information systems or economic modeling software a plus.

The Public Finance and Economic Growth Group (PFEG) is a division within RTI’s International Development Group. PFEG provides services to clients in developing countries in a wide range of technical areas including economic growth.

In the months ahead, PFEG will be working with the Office of Urban Programs at the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on a series of Local Economic Development (LED) case studies in eight African countries. We are immediately seeking two paid, graduate level, interns to work on a number of concrete tasks.
We anticipate a commitment of approximately 15 hours per week for a period of 2-3 months, beginning immediately. This level of effort could increase over the coming summer months.
